About PhotoHastings

PhotoHastings (PH), was formed as a collective of photographers in the South East of England in 2009 by Grace Lau and Andrew Moran. It aims to inspire an appreciation of contemporary photographic art through a festival programme, regular talks, exhibitions, workshops and mentoring.

Starting with nothing more than a group of enthusiastic and knowledgeable photographers in 2009, the collective began to show in 2010 and to develop the Photohastings season, now taking place from September to the end of November of each year.

With Arts Council funding in 2014, the group was able to expand its membership and activities to present a diverse photo festival. This has included partnerships with Photography and the Archive Research Centre at University of the Arts London, (PARC); Electric Cinema Hastings, Fairlight Arts Trust, the Pier Trust, the Jerwood Gallery Hastings and University of Gloucester and Brighton Photo Fringe. Guest photographers include: Simon Roberts, Martin Parr, Nigel Shafran and Nigel Green.

Photology, is series of photography talks initiated by Alexander Brattell including artists and writers such as, Simon Norfolk, Mark Power, Sean O’Hagan, Chris Wainwright, Anthony Penrose, John Stezaker, Peter Kennard and Prof Val Williams. This series takes place at the time of the photo-season.
